Christian TShirts What Message Do They Give
Christian music appeals to the young and the not-so-young alike. People of all ages, from all backgrounds, are drawn to the wide variety of bands and musicians, as each has its own style but all have one common factor: the desire to spread the message. For some of these Christian bands, one part of spreading the message is in their choice of the clothing they wear. You can find them on stage, either televised or in concert, wearing t-shirts which clearly tell their fans who they are and what they believe in. Some have quotes from the Bible, some have cute designs, some of these t-shirts are directly to the point with sayings such as “Be Like Christ!” As many fans, especially the young, put a lot of stock in everything their favored bands do, it is important to take a look at the “message behind the message”-- that is, what this type of public display is conveying to the bands' young audiences.
Whether the bands are aware of it or not, with this trend of Christian t-shirts they are fulfilling a very old and very important commandment. Although t-shirts are certainly a much more modern method than was originally spoken, as far back as Deuteronomy people were commanded to wear a visible sign of their faith. It is heartwarming to see today's bands wearing t-shirts which show themselves and their fans what they believe in, and, even more important, to whom they are connected!
Another important aspect of these types of t-shirts is it helps generate interest. One could say it is a different and very good way of “witnessing.” While youngsters are interested in the lyrics sung by the bands, what is written on their t-shirts will promote even more curiosity. For example, young people will see references to Scripture on band-members' t-shirts, and natural curiosity will likely have them picking up the Bible to read its source and to learn more.
Equally important is the aspect of “walking the walk.” While many people may be shy or reserved about making public displays of their faith, or concerned that it may not be taken well, when they see their favorite Christian bands performing in t-shirts that very clearly show their faith, they will see that faith is not simply a matter of believing, it is a matter of living what one believes. When done in a tasteful, respectful manner, it is a very good thing indeed to wear t-shirts that make a direct and clear statement of one's faith. When Christian bands do this, they are providing a great influence to their young fans. The message on the shirts is good; the message that it conveys to youngsters about living their faith, is even better.
