Before you wear that Chrstian clothing to work
Unfortunately, announcing your particular religious beliefs can have quite a few serious downfalls. Yes, you absolutely should be proud of your faith, but not everyone has a positive opinion about Christians – especially in light of the 9/11 attacks.
Granted, the terrorists that committed that atrocity were not Christian, but they were religious fanatics. Being devout is one thing, but oppressing others because you so adamantly believe them to be heathen and outright wrong is quite another. Wearing Christian clothing to work could mark you as a religious fanatic, especially if you are exceptionally outspoken about God and his teachings.
Co-workers and your Christian clothing
Most non-Christian people don't like Christians – what with all their 7am or mid-dinner missionary visits, and mouthy, inconsiderate, closed-minded attitudes. There are quite a few Christians that give the rest of us a bad name, and wearing Christian clothing to work could get you lumped in with those individuals.
Or worse, you could end up the talk of the office. Everything you say and do will be scrutinized to the Nth degree. Now more than ever, people fear religious fanatics, and that Christian clothing could easily label you as one. What's more, you may be opening yourself up to much more than just strange looks and whispers about the office.
Your boss and that Christian clothing
Particularly if you work in a field known for its innovation and consistent forward movement, wearing Christian clothing to work could mark you as someone who can't move beyond old ways. There are a lot of connotations your boss could derive from your attire, and unless your boss is Christian too, none of those opinions lead to speedy promotion.
Even though you are not supposed to be discriminated against because of your religious beliefs, it truly does happen. If you find yourself held back at work, you will be hard pressed to prove religious discrimination if you wore Christian clothing.
It's much easier to track these things with written or spoken statements. If everyone knows you are Christian by your attire, they have no need to communicate with their peers why you are being passed up for that promotion. It's plain for all to see.
It may be God's will to see you lose out on that promotion – but it was your will to wear that Christian clothing to work. Sometimes you just have to take personal responsibility for what happens in your life. After all, God has over 6 billion children to look after.
