Displaying Your Inner Christian

They say that the clothes make the man. This is obviously so untrue that it is ludicrous; after all, what role can clothing play in the decisions that a man or a woman makes in their life? It is the heart, not the clothes, that make the man. But are the clothes really an expression of heart? Can you tell where a person’s heart lies just by looking at the way that they’re dressed?

If you are a Christian, you know that the greatest challenge you face is being able to find a way to express your faith in a world where not only is Christianity not respected or revered, often times it is ridiculed when brought to the public attention. You will find yourself being told constantly to hush, to keep your “opinions” to yourself, and not to violate a person’s constitutional right to believe whatever it is that they want to believe. The question is, can you do that?

The answer is: Of course not! As a member of the family of God, it is your obligation to go out and show the rest of the world God’s love; after all, imagine where they are going to be if they never make the choice to accept him. Can you live with that weight on your shoulders? Are you willing to go through the remainder of your life on Earth knowing that you could have saved humanity if you’d only had a little more courage to go against the popular opinion and spread God’s love?

This brings us back to the clothing making the man. One of the easiest ways to show your faith in public is by wearing Christian themed clothing and jewelry. We’re not talking about the WWJD bracelets and the cross necklaces that everybody and their brother are wearing because they’re a fashion statement. These articles have managed to completely lose their meaning in the crush of material consumerism they began. We’re talking about tee-shirts that scream out to the world, “Yes! I’m a Jesus Freak!” and chokers proudly displaying the Jesus fish. These items, more than anything else, will show the world that you aren’t afraid of your faith; after all, while you can choose who you are going to talk to about a particular subject, when you wear your Christian clothing and jewelry you are putting your beliefs out there for the whole world to see.

This is the first step in displaying your inner Christian in order to draw the attention of your non-believing acquaintances. They see that you love the Lord (how could they miss it?) and your actions reflect the differences that God has wrought in your life since you first accepted him into your heart. You are now a “Sermon in Shoes”-now go out and use your inner Christian to spread the news!
