No Longer At War-The Blessings Of Vietnam Now Emerges
I myself am too young to remember much about the Vietnam war more than what little they taught me in school. I remember that is was a horrible war that caused a lot of pain and strife for both their own country and our own. I also know that there are several Vietnam veterans who should be respected, even if they fought in a war many feel America should never have gotten involved in.
But now that the war has been over for several years, the time to rebuild and help the Vietnamese has now come upon us. Leaving the past in the past and moving forward into a brighter future, there is a Christian organization that is working to bring peace, love and joy back into the hearts and lives of the Vietnamese people.
This group's name is In Motion Ministries (http://www.InMotionMinistries.com) and they have been around since 1986 and have been helping people who want to become short term missionaries learn to do so. Anyone over the age of 14 can apply to be trained as a full fledged missionary – just remember this is not meant to be a spectator sport – participating and ministering to those in need will come from this training.
What many Americans do not realize is how much of a need truly exists in Vietnam now, even with the rapid changes it is currently going through. Some ways that the trained missionaries will be used to serve is by visiting orphanages, become friends and loving those children that are almost forgotten; Visiting children's schools and delivering books the schools are in desperate need of; and going to local universities to have impromptu meetings with the students, showing them that they are loved.
I have a friend who was lucky and bold enough to go through the training program and fly to Vietnam to minister to those in need. He shared with me how the Vietnamese actually love our culture and our freedom, and most he met would love to hear his testimonies of what Christ was doing in his and his friends' lives. He explained that the citizens just could not get enough of his stories from back home, and many felt closer to him from his sharing them.
His only regret was that he only got to stay for three months. He is planning on returning once more this year, and is working on bringing me with him. If this opportunity sounds like a fun one to you as well, check out their website and perhaps you will see me traveling with you to bless more Vietnamese children and teenagers!
