Orphans Deserve Love Too-Project Kenya

Back in the Eighties, Americans were terrified of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Until it was better understood, there were so many rumors on how you could contract the disease that many were scared to do anything at all. For a short time, America came close to coming to a full halt. But then we started learning that it could only be passed by fluids, and that merely touching or brushing by someone who has it would not be cause for alarm.

Looking back, we can easily see how silly we were in the overreaction to the virus and disease. We can also see how much more safe we like to practice, especially with Christians encouraging abstinence and waiting until marriage so that you would know both couples were clean. We encouraged our schools to teach our children the facts about HIV and how they, too, could remain safe.

Unfortunately, us Americans forget sometimes that there are other countries out there who are not so educated about the virus and it's deadly effects, as well as how someone contracts it. In Kenya, several children become orphans over time due to their parents dying of AIDS. Many of these same children know that AIDS is bad, but that is really the extent of their education. This is why COMMIT Ministries (http://www.COMMITMinistries.com) is taking a stand and doing something about this.

The missionaries have found that all though the parents contract and eventually die of the AIDS virus, the children were born before infection had occurred and could have been passed on. Most of these kids are in secondary school, getting ready to enter high school. One of the projects COMMIT is working on is building the necessary rooms for the high school that is required for teaching the children.

Another way they are helping is through agriculture and help with wildlife for food. Currently the organization is working with the Maasai tribe on their farming, watersheds and fish hatcheries. By keeping a close eye and a helping hand, they will be able to help the survival of the tribe and their future children to come.

Once of the final ways COMMIT is working hard to improve the lives of those living in Kenya is to visit with and become friends of the orphaned children. Many may understand why their parents have passed away, but it doesn't make it any easier to get through. With the love of Jesus Christ guiding them onwards, the missionaries can help rebuild the children's confidence and help them create a better life for themselves.

If this mission field sounds like something you would enjoy doing or is something God is leading you to do, then please contact the website for details. They can always use the help, and even just your prayers will be gladly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
