Project Ange lHeart-Help For Those With Terminal Diseases

Being diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, whether it be a type of cancer or even worse, contracting the HIV/AIDS virus is a frightening experience. Not only for the diagnosed, but for their close family and friends as well. Slowly it begins to seep in: Your time on this earth has just gotten much shorter, and all the things you took for granted are now staring you squarely in the face. There is no reversal switch; there is no second chance. The best you can hope for is a miracle or a new cure to be found.

As for the family and friends of the diagnosed, they now know how truly precious time spent with them is, and how scary the thought of being without them really is. A somber mood takes over for a while, with regrets, guilt, pain and sorrow all coursing through the loved one's bodies. Mortality becomes all too real of a subject, and they become scared to awaken for fear of finding out that the diagnosed has perished.

I should know; I have had quite a few close friends die from the likes of colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and the dreaded AIDS virus. Watching so many die, and not knowing what could be done killed a part of me inside. I knew I wanted to help those in need such as were my friends, and so I began to search for a way to give back to the community that helped me through these trying times.

Then I found “Project Angel Heart” (http://www.projectangelheart.org), a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed and offer support to those suffering through HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other such debilitating diseases. This organization has been wonderful for me, and also quite healing through their volunteer opportunities. One of my favorite volunteer positions is helping to deliver food with the Project Angel Heart crew.

When I first volunteered over the summer quite a few years back, Project Angel Heart was receiving left-over foods from restaurants, making them into nutritious portions, and then almost every day serving them to those in need. I got to visit many people in all walks of life, and even got to know some amazing people before they left this life. It has always been hard to lose these friends I have made over the years, but knowing how much I, through Christ Jesus, was able to bless them has made all the difference.

Please consider helping this fine establishment, or a similar one in your own state or neighboring city. Even today many of these people are shunned from society due to their illnesses, and they desperately need the help, love and support these organizations provide. Thank you and God Bless.
