Why You Should Give to Missions

If you’ve ever wondered why you should give to a mission, you could go on a mission trip to get your questions answered in person. Experience has proven to be the best teacher. However, there’s other ways to check out how missions are worthwhile. The internet offers a wealth of information on missions. If you take the time to call area churches or religious associations, you can also get your questions answered. The local library should have access to information on missions as well.

One American group of missionaries making a difference is the Texas Baptist Men. They make headlines for their continued efforts to reach out and help. They’ve cleaned out flooded homes, provided meals, and performed repairs. They’ve also sent toolboxes to Sudan and helped special-needs evacuees. They and many other missions have taught important skills so that parents could better support their poverty-stricken families.

One way missions in America help is by providing food and clothing where they are most needed. What about food stamps, you ask? Well, even though that is an outlet for some, it isn’t the cure-all for everyone. Food stamps are not available to everyone. People in other countries don’t have access to them. Some people in America can’t always get them each time they are needed either. Although they do help many people and are a necessary benefit, no one program is the answer in every situation.

What about clothing ministries? Well, these help as well, but again they are not available in all areas. Another drawback to clothing ministries is that the right sizes are not always available at the right times. Sometimes it is more cost-effective to send money to help purchase the proper clothing in an area than it is to try to transport the clothes where they are needed. Some cultures may not be allowed to accept certain items because it is against their beliefs to wear just anything that is offered.

Does that sound picky? Helping other cultures also means respecting their beliefs. To reach people with Christian love, we must also show respect for them.

American missions send people across the globe to give hands-on involvement. Since we can’t all be where we are needed each time we are needed, donating to missions can help accomplish more widespread aid. It allows those of us who aren’t able to be there in person a way to become involved.
